St. Michael’s Church
This church was completed
in 1761 and is the oldest church in the city of Charleston. George Washington
attended services at the church when he visited Charleston in 1791. The church
has a clock and ringing bells that date back to Colonial times. The clock tower
is the oldest tower clock in North America. My first graders study George
Washington and this would be an interesting fact to share with them about his
visit to one of Charleston’s oldest churches.
